0

Claim: Please don’t buy facemask again ooo we just heard that  the ones imported to us are all tested positive for Coronavirus, they are trying to kill African with this pandemic please stop buying it from now and please share this useful message to your loved ones even your enemy, and as you save lives may GOD let u see the end of Coronavirus  Amen.”

Source: The claim surfaced in the chartroom of the Reporters Association of Liberia days after it was shared by social media platforms in Liberia.

Verification:  To verify the claim, The Stage Media (#TSMCheck) contacted Assistant Health Minister for Curative Services Dr. Gorbee Gabriel Logan said.  “Do not forget that there are lots of wicked people out there who want to see increase death so they are spreading misleading information.  But we are concerned because we do not know whether the information is from Africa or the western world. It will take us time to establish the actual cause of that information.

Our major concern here now is to ensure that Liberians are safe that is while we are encouraging them to wear their face mask, regular hand washing, social distancing, avoid public gatherings and keep their family safe during the period of the pandemic.”

The World Health Organization says masks should be used as part of a comprehensive strategy of measures to suppress transmission and save lives; the use of a mask alone is not sufficient to provide an adequate level of protection against COVID-19

Also, wearing masks is a simple barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching others. Studies show that masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth according to the Center for Disease and John Hopkins University.

Verdict: False, there is no source of the claim.
