Third party companies sometimes try to profit off of limited or incorrect information about U.S. immigration. The U.S. Embassy website or travel.state.gov are typically your best resources.
The “US Green Card Lottery” is referring to our Diversity Visa Program. It is an annual program making a limited number of visas available to persons who meet strict eligibility requirements from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. An online search established that the BBC pidgin article debunked similar message in Nigeria.
The US Embassy in Nigeria on its Twitter’s account termed the message as Fake on June 18, 2021, “SCAM ALERT
The U.S. Mission to Nigeria is aware of websites and messages advertising the U.S. visa lottery. All these sites are FAKE! The only accurate information on the visa lottery is available at http://ng.usembassy.gov and http://travel.state.gov.
At the same time, the US Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs has not open new applications for 2021, all entrants on its websites are 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.
