Claims: Six claims ranging on Economy and mismanagement of funds by Ex-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

Source: President George Weah (December 2020)

Of the six claims we checked, President Weah was only correct that “millions were spent on the Executive Mansion re-construction, but the mansion is yet to be completed.

He was nearly on the money about the debt. “12 years of billions of dollars of Foreign Aid, you still leave the country with 1 billion dollars debt that my government is now paying back.” His figures didn’t add up, however.

His claims about Sirleaf spending over a million dollars for Oil Law Consultations; that bought forth Sirleaf’s grandchild, a high school student, to speak to experts cannot be proven.

His claim about 11 budget shortfalls in 12 years is an exaggeration and False, while the budget of 2012/2013, 2014/15, 2015/2016 etc. shows budget shortfall, it did not amount to 11 years.

Weah claim of Chevron gift of 10 Million USD as Corporate Social Responsibility is hurried on and the figure did not add up because the amount is a $10.5 million investment in Liberia’s socioeconomic development to support Liberia’s Poverty Reduction Strategy. At the same time, his claim that such amount ($10M) was given to Sirleaf’s son to squander; cannot be proven.

His Claim that 4 billion was in Foreign direct investment, but Sirleaf left Liberia in abject squalor and poverty is false. The amount is 16 billion according to the IMF 2018 report.
