Full Text: A website circulating in various WhatsApp groups has claimed to reward Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN) users with 50GB of Internet data and an iPhone 16 as a prize for its 30th-anniversary celebration.
The website showcases MTN’s 30-year celebration symbol while encouraging citizens to participate.
MTN is an emerging mobile operator at the forefront of technological and digital changes.
They provide a diverse range of voice, data, digital, fintech, wholesale, and enterprise services to 18 diverse markets. It was established in 1994 in South Africa at the dawn of democracy.
Verification: When clicking the link, an application form on the website will open and instruct OK to claim your reward. A question will appear: Do you use MTN Network? Are you male or female? How old are you? What do you think about us?
After answering the first set of questions, the website will send a congratulatory message and give three (3) chances to win their valuable prizes by selecting the box that has the gifts within with the instruction to click the start button.
Authenticating the claim, they said we won an iPhone 15 Pro Max-256GB but with another attached task: share with 5 groups/ 15 friends on WhatsApp (click the “WhatsApp” icon below), click “Continue,” and claim your prize. “ Share until the blue bar is filled with 100% as a way to be selected.
To authenticate the website, we tested the links using scamdoc.com, a web tool that evaluates the trust of digital identities—links, email addresses, and websites.
The link shows that an HTTP security protocol has been detected on this website. “Be careful; this indicator is not always synonymous with security.” The trust score was rated at 1%, which is very low and the domain name is “very recent—less than 6 months. a short life expectancy domain.
