Did Entire CDC Executive Including Chairman Join "Enough is Enough" Protest?

Verdict: Partly Correct

Full Text: James Flomo is a journalist with the Spoon network in Liberia. During the July 17 "Enough is Enough" protest held It was organized and held by STAND with endorsement from the CDC Youth League. Flomo made a Facebook post that the entire executive of the CDC, including its chairman, Janga Kowo, joined the protest. This was one of his posts from the protest that trended, generating 102 reactions, 81 comments, and three shares.

Organized by the Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) through its head, Mulbah Morlu, who is also the former chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change, the protest intended to demand justice and accountability in governance and the rule of law, among others. STAND is believed to be a grassroots movement.

The protest received endorsements from the CDC Youth League and Citizens United to Demand Accountability, in addition to other groups and individuals pledging backing for the process.

Verification: Stage Media Liberia contacted CDC Chairman Janga A. Kowo via WhatsApp to verify the claim. Kowo dismissed the allegation.

Why Kowo denied the information: we found a 27:06 live video coverage by OK FM that captured Chairman Kowo in front of the CDC headquarters in Congo Town on the day of the protest. At 23:35 in the live video, the reporter is heard announcing Kowo's availability and is seen in a "Black T-Shirt" speaking to the crowd of protesters at the compound at 23:45 in the video.

TSM also reached out to James regarding his claim, and the below response was provided:

"You're from the protest. Watch the video that has Morlu from Sinkor to Capitol Hill."
"You didn't see the Youth League, including its chairman?"
"And you didn't see the CDC chairman?"

Our newsroom conducted a thorough review of available videos and photographs from the July 17 protest. While we confirmed the participation of:

CDC Youth League Chairman and some officials
Former Representative Gray (CDC Executive Member)
Current District #9 Representative Foko
presence of Kowo among a crowd of protesters on July 17,

We found no visual evidence of the presence or participation of the "entire CDC Executive" as claimed.

Conclusion: While the presence of CDC chairman Kowo at some point of the protest and the participation of some CDC-affiliated individuals, including Youth League leadership and select party officials, the claim grossly overstated the level of official party participation.
