Fake Recruitment Portal Targets Job Seekers With a Bogus Application Link

 

Claim: “The Civil Service Agency (CSA) has “opened a general recruitment application portal to recruit new employees to work in different agencies across the country,” directing job seekers to apply through a link before the “portal closes.”

Source: The claim is circulating as a shared link and screenshot across professional WhatsApp groups, chat rooms, and Facebook timelines in Liberia.

Verdict: The Civil Service Agency has not opened a general recruitment portal. In a public disclaimer, the Agency describes the notice as a scam and warns the public against it directly.

Full Text: A message promising jobs “across the country” has been moving through professional WhatsApp groups and Facebook timelines this week, urging job seekers to fill out a short form for gender, age, and a click to “Proceed” before a CSA portal supposedly closes. For someone hunting for work in a tight job market, it reads like a real chance.

The notice reads in part, "The CSA has opened a general recruitment application portal to recruit new employees to work in different agencies across the country. All applications must be submitted via this Civil Service Agency – Liberia Recruitment Portal. Apply now before the portal closes.” It then walks applicants through a short form asking their gender and whether they are above 18 before a button marked “Proceed.”

The claim has gained traction because it borrows the CSA's name directly and taps into real demand: formal government jobs are scarce, and a recruitment drive “across the country” is an attractive prospect for job seekers. But the Agency says the portal is not real.

 

Verification: To verify the claim, we reviewed the Civil Service Agency's own public statement on the matter (view the CSA's public disclaimer), posted under the heading “Scam / Fake Recruitment Link Alert.” The statement reads:

“The public is hereby advised to be cautious of fake recruitment notices and links circulating in the name of the Civil Service Agency (CSA). Members of the public should not click on unverified recruitment links, submit personal information, or make payments in response to such notices. Any recruitment exercise in the name of the CSA should be verified through the Agency's official communication channels before applying.”

This is not an isolated tactic in Liberia. A similar fake recruitment link previously circulated in the name of the National Port Authority, using a government seal and a short form to collect applicants' details. 

As an earlier fact check found (see the earlier NPA recruitment scam report), that form congratulated users regardless of what they entered and pushed them to share the link further, a hallmark of a scam built to spread itself rather than to actually hire anyone.

 The CSA notice follows the same basic pattern: an official-sounding name, urgency (“apply before it closes”), and a data-collection form ahead of any real vacancy listing.

Conclusion: The claim that the Civil Service Agency has opened a public recruitment portal is FALSE. The Agency itself has disclaimed the circulating link as a scam and is urging the public not to click it, submit personal information, or make any payment in response. Anyone interested in CSA vacancies should verify hiring announcements only through the Agency's official communication channels.
