Full Text: Printiss Domah, secretary general of the ruling Unity Party (UP) Youth Congress, Nimba Chapter, posted on his official Facebook handle that "Liberia currently has 29 registered political parties."
He further asserted that the Unity Party enjoys the support of 19 other parties, while the CDC has the support of 4 others.
The post, at the time of this check, generated 64 reactions and 35 comments.
Liberia operates under a multi-party system with numerous political parties. This creates a dynamic political environment where alliances and party composition can shift significantly over time, with leadership personalities often driving these changes more than rigid ideological differences.
Verification: To authenticate this claim, we visited the National Elections Commission (NEC) website . The commission is tasked with the responsibility of conducting and/or handling all national elections in Liberia.
We found that as of April 2025, there are a total of 46 registered political parties by the commission, which include parties that were certified ahead of the 2023 general elections, such as United Independent Democrats (UID), National Development Party (NDP), All Liberians Solidarity Party (ALSOP), Reformers National Congress (RNC), Greater Action Party of Liberia (GAPL), African Liberation League (ALL), Grassroots Development Movement (GSM), Liberia's First Movement (LFM), African Democratic Movement of Liberia (ADML), and Liberia Rebuilding Party. Additionally, the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) and the Democratic National Allegiance (DNA) were certified in 2024, contributing to the current total of 46.
The above figure was further confirmed by IB Wesseh, director for political affairs at the NEC, which sums up the total number of registered political parties to 47, following the registration of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) of Nimba District #7 Representative Musa Bility.
We as well checked Domah's claim about the Unity Party enjoying the support of 19 other parties, while the CDC is supported by 4 others.

However, internal disagreements have been noted. For example, ALCOP publicly distanced itself from the alliance’s endorsement of Representative Samuel Kogar in the Nimba County senatorial by-election, citing a lack of consensus.
Regarding the CDC, latest reports show that, as of April 2025, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) comprises six political parties: Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), United People's Party (UPP), Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), Change Democratic Action (CDA), and Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE).
These six parties formally joined the CDC ahead of the 2023 elections, signing a framework agreement on April 8, 2023, to support President George Weah’s re-election bid.
Former CDC member parties that have withdrawn: National Patriotic Party (NPP)—withdrew in mid-2024. Liberia People's Democratic Party (LPDP)—Withdrew in June 2024, and People’s Liberation Party (PLP)—Withdrew in July 2024.
These withdrawals reduced the CDC’s composition from nine parties at its peak in 2023 to six parties as of 2025.

The NEC’s official website lists 46 registered political parties, and the NEC Political Affairs Director, IB Wesseh, confirmed 47 with the addition of the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) as of April 2025.
