Verdict: Partly True! For over two years, Sen. J. Emmanuel Nuquay has not provided legislative reports to the citizens of Margibi County for almost two years, not three years as stated by Cooper.
Full Text: Late Friday evening, January 24, 2025, Stanley Cooper, a Canada-based Liberian political activist, posted on his official Facebook page to claim that Margibi County Senator James Emmanuel Nuquay has refused to provide a legislative report to the citizens of Margibi County for over three years.
In his post, Cooper wondered why Senator Nuquay's followers criticized a report by Representative Ivar K. Jones when their leader refused to do the same, thus describing it as hypocrisy.
"It has been over 3 years, and Sen. Emmanuel Nuquay has refused to provide a common legislative report to the citizens of Margibi but his followers will have the audacity to critique Rep. Ivar K. Jones's reports. Can you imagine the fakery and hypocrisy?"
Senator Nuquay in 2017 ran as a vice candidate to now President Joseph Boakai. In 2020, in special senatorial elections, Nuquay won the senatorial slot of Margibi County.
Before his election, he served as director general of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA). Fast forward to December 2023, he was among three public officials of Liberia designated by the U.S. Department of Treasury for their involvement in significant corruption by abusing their public positions through sociality, accepting, and offering bribes to manipulate legislative processes and public funding, including legislative reporting and mining sector activity.
Verification: To verify this claim, our Margibi County Fellow contacted the office of Senator Nuquay, who did not disprove the claim.
Campbell M. Dennis, chief of office staff in the Nuquah office, told our fellow via Messenger that his boss does not run his office on Facebook; hence, he would not waste time responding to Cooper's claim.
Dennis said Cooper's post is of greed, anger, desperation, and hate for his boss, adding they have in town passed, presented, and published legislative reports to the people of Margibi County.
Meanwhile, our online research revealed that the last time Nuquay presented a legislative report to the citizens of Margibi County was on March 30, 2023, a report that covers two years of working activities from January 2021 to December 2022.
Our Margibi County Fellow observed that since the presentation and publication of the 2021/2022 legislative reports, there have been no additional publications or presentations for over two years.
Conclusion: Based on our findings, Cooper is partly correct about the lawmakers not reporting to the county; however, our research unveiled that since Nuquay presented his last legislative report for 2022 in March of 2023, it has been two years and two months since he has reported to the county.
