Quick Check: Image Showing President Boakai Falling at UNGA Is Fake

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, social media users circulated an image showing President Joseph Nyumah Boakai falling at United Nations headquarters.

The image was widely shared on Facebook, attracting numerous reactions, shares, and comments.

We examined the image using fact-checking and verification tools, including an image magnifier, image forensics software, and Google reverse image search. These tools showed that the image is doctored.

The Original Elements Used
The Fall: The foreground portion showing a man falling backward near an escalator is not from the United Nations at all. It actually shows Georgia State Senator Colton Moore (R-Trenton) falling to the ground during a scuffle with House staff and Georgia State Patrol troopers at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta on January 16, 2025. Moore was attempting to defy a ban and enter the House chamber for Governor Brian Kemp's State of the State address when the confrontation occurred; he was later arrested and charged with misdemeanor obstruction. Photos of the incident were credited to Ross Williams of the Georgia Recorder and Jason Getz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution/AP.

Verification tools showed that Moore's head had been digitally replaced with the head of Liberian President Joseph Boakai. The official seal of the Presidency of the Republic of Liberia was also added to the bottom right corner to mimic an official government release.
