What we Established About September 17 Being CDC Headquarters Ground-breaking Claim

Keith Hassan, a panelist on spoon FM, claimed that the Coalition for Democratic Change did not plan any ground-breaking event for September 17, 2025.

Hassan made the claim on Spoon FM, October 6.  The claim is found here (1:00:56).

The CDC headquarters, once the party’s political nerve center in Congo Town, was recently demolished under a court order—a move that sparked anger among partisans who insist the decision was politically motivated. 

The eviction order stems from a long-running legal dispute dating back to 2016, when the Intestate Estate of Martha Stubblefield Bernard, represented by Ebrima Varney Dempster, filed an enactment action against the CDC.
• In 2016, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Bernard estate.
• In March 2024, the Civil Law Court issued writs ordering the CDC’s eviction, but enforcement was delayed.
• On June 2, 2025, the Bernard estate issued a one-week eviction notice, citing unpaid rent (estimated at US$100,000 per year) and damages.

The CDC countered with a petition for Specific Performance, arguing it had a Right of First Refusal to purchase the property, but the courts rejected this claim.
• On May 28, 2025, the Supreme Court dismissed the CDC’s Bill of Information and sanctioned its lawyers, ruling that rent payments from 2018–2023 established a landlord–tenant relationship.
• On August 1, 2025, the Civil Law Court denied the CDC’s motion to block enforcement.
• On August 13, 2025, the court formally ordered the police to enforce the eviction.
• On August 15, 2025, the Supreme Court reaffirmed ownership by the Bernard estate and set a US$4.2 million cash demand if the CDC wished to remain on the property.

The CDC now has appointed the headquarters construction committee, valued in the millions and will be executed by MHD Engineering, an international firm with offices in Liberia, Accra, Lebanon, and Dubai. The company will collaborate with local subcontractors to complete the multi-floor structure, which will include a basement for administrative activities, a conference hall, executive offices, and meeting spaces for party leadership.

We checked Social Media and saw circulated claims on September 17 that ground-breaking was expected.

See here, here, and here. Additionally, Isaac Doe, a member of the construction committee, did a video on August 25, related to September 17, but he didn’t disclose fully what the date was about.

Aloysius Howe, a staunch partisan, debunked the claim,” Also, please be informed that the CDC has not announced any date for the groundbreaking ceremony of its national headquarters. The September 17 date that is paraded in the public as the date for the groundbreaking ceremony of the party headquarters is not factual, and is unrealistic. The CDC will announce thé official date for the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of our headquarters after the arrival of our standard bearer in Liberia, president George Weah.”

We checked the official page of the CDC committee but found no trace of September 17, as the previous ground breaking date.

The page has a post schedule for October 18 as the date for the groundbreaking party’s headquarters.

Conclusion: The claim by Stanton Witherspoon of Spoon that the party's scheduled September 17 as the previous ground-breaking day is incorrect. Keff Hassan is correct that no official communication is scheduled for September 17 for the party’s headquarter ground breaking ceremony.

Additionally, Doe made a post relative to September 17, but he didn’t say what the date was about.
