Full Text: On September 17, 2025, Liberian Lawyer and Political Activist, Cllr. Moriah Yeakula Korkpor, in a Facebook post, stated that there were over 2,700 rape cases reported in just 10 months in 2024. In her post, Moriah claimed that “Last year, within 10 months (Jan-Oct), Liberia had over 2,700 rape cases reported.”
The Facebook post, which was in reference to an ongoing rape case involving suspended Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Liberia J. Bryant McGill over a rape allegation, generated over 150 reactions, 30 shares, and over 100 comments.
Verification: We reviewed available official public information sites for the Ministry of Gender including Facebook and website and did not see anything related to the SGBV report from 2024 by the Ministry.
We managed to get a video footage of the Minister of Gender Gbeme Horace Kollie remarks at the November 25, 2024 launch of the 16 days of Activism at the Ministerial Complex, where she made the statement about the number of rape cases in Liberia from January to October 2025 and these were her exact words: “From January to October 2024, the total of 2759 rape cases were reported, with Montserrado once again recording the highest number at 1902 cases.”
Furthermore, several credible media institutions reported corresponding figures stated in Moriah’s claim, including the Analyst Newspaper and the Inquirer, as well as popular Liberian Activist Titus Pakalah,who did a Facebook post making his opinion about the issue.
Conclusion: Based on Minister Kollie’s remarks at the November 25, 2024, at the Ministerial Complex and credible multiple media reports, Moriah was correct about the number of reported rape cases from January to October 2024.
