Full Text: On September 24, 2025, a Liberian journalist, Abu M. Sheriff, who works for Freedom FM, made a serious allegation on his personal Facebook page about the Vice President of Liberia.
Sheriff claimed that he had received information from someone in authority that "VP Koung has been rushed out of the country to the UK due to poor health."
The post gained significant attention on social media, raising concerns about the health status of Liberia's second-highest official.
Jeremiah Koung serves as the current Vice President of Liberia, having been elected in the 2023 presidential elections as declared by the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia alongside President Joseph N. Boakai.
Verification: The Stage Media Liberia reached out to official sources to verify the claim about Koung's alleged medical emergency and travel to the United Kingdom.
We contacted Edwin G. Korden, Special Aide to the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, who categorically denied the allegation.
"This is a false brother. It's not true," Edwin stated via WhatsApp chat. When we asked about the Vice President's current location, Korden clarified: "Nope! He's in Accra and will be back on Friday. I can call you to cover his arrival." We also reached out to Abu M. Sheriff via Facebook Messenger for his response to the official denial. Sheriff maintained his position, telling us: "The core facts in this are that the Vice President is not well; he's been rushed out of the country; as we speak, he's out of Liberia; he left in order to seek medical."
Daniel Sando, deputy minister of Information, disclosed that Koung is not ill, terming the circulation of the claim as false "All i can say is that the vice president is well and he is scheduled to return to the country today or tomorrow."
When we further contacted the press director of the Vice president, Solomon Ware referred us to the statement of Sando on the grounds that it is a coordinated statement. "It's a lie. Reference the ministry of information last week news conference."
Conclusion: Based on our verification with official sources, the claim that VP Koung has been "rushed to the UK due to poor health" is unproven.
His Special Aide, Sando, claims that although the Vice President is outside of Liberia, "he is in Accra, Ghana" rather than the UK, and there is no sign of a medical emergency requiring immediate travel. The claim misidentifies the VP's destination as the UK rather than Ghana and conflates his absence from the country with an unproven medical emergency.
