Full Text: Meapeh Gono, Superintendent of Nimba County, claimed that the county raised 1.1 million united states dollars during the 2024–2025 fiscal year. The claim is found here, and here.
Verification: The Stage Media contacted Gono to verify the claim on August 18, 2025; she read the request for verification but did not respond.
On August 22, she was contacted again, but she did not respond. Additionally, on August 27, another reminder was sent to Gono, but she failed to respond to our inquiries.
We, however, contacted the Liberia Revenue Authority head of communication, D. Kaihenneh Sengebh, who said there is no record of the amount requested by our researcher.
He recommended that we contact the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) since they are the direct supervisor of local government.
When we contacted the media officer at MIA, Joe Washington, he confirmed that the claim was correct.
He said, “The information is correct; I just spoke with the superintendent. You can also speak with her to balance your story.”
When we requested Washington for further evidence, he said that Gono would be the best person to provide pieces of documentation on the claim instead.
On September 11, on Voice of Gompa (1:30:59), Gono said she said in the fiscal year 2024-25, the Nimba County service center raised over 9 million LD and 1.1 million USD; it is a public report.
According to Gono, it is a public report that her office is aware of; unfortunately, she did not say how to obtain the report.
Conclusion: The claim that Nimba raised US$1.1 million is unproven, as the superintendent has failed to provide documentation on the claim.
