Claim: George Weah nominated all officials to the Ministry of Youths and Sports in January 2018
Verdict: Misleading, the Ministry of Youths and Sports did not have a complete team in January 2018.
Full Text: Former Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Isaac Doe claimed that former President George Weah completed nominations at the Ministry of Youths and Sports in January 2018.
Doe’s claim contradicts current President Joseph Boakai’s reportedly slow pace in forming his cabinet since his inauguration on January 22, 2024.
During his appearance on Spoon Talk around three hours, thirty-one minutes, and fifty-eight seconds on February 17, Doe said, “When George Weah took over by the end of January, the Youths and Sports had all its ministers.
Verification: Stage Media contacted Doe on the claim.
Doe told TSM, “No, that is not what I said.” I said most appointments were completed by February; out of nine ministers, six were completed on the date we had that discussion.
Doe was nominated in March 2018 and research shows that five of nine ministers were nominated in January 2018.
Conclusion: With nine ministers in the ministry, five were nominated in January 2018, and the remaining four were nominated in March 2018. Therefore, the claim that former President Weah nominated all ministers to the ministry is misleading.
