Image of Ali's Mansion/Facebook

Full Text: James S. Mulbahposted on Facebook on November 25, 2024, claiming that Mo Ali,  Managing Director, Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation (LWSC), owns a mansion in Upper Caldwell.

The claim, which was sequentially taken down, had 34 reactions, 51 comments, and 20 shares.

Verification: Upon contacting Mo Ali via WhatsApp to authenticate the information, he directed our fact-checker to the Facebook page belonging to one Kingsley Yaw Amoako Nympong, a ‘Design and Build’ consultant residing in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

Yaw posted the image on November 23, 2024, at about 10:44 PM, showcasing his work as he always does, and two days later, on November 25, 2024, Mulbah made a post with the same image claiming that the property is being owned by Ali.

Interestingly, our further verification using a Google image search found the structure in question was also posted on an Instagram page on November 24, 2024, by Aksoyblocks Factory, located in Seeta, Mukono, Uganda.

In the post, the company appreciated clients for using their high-quality blocks to construct the property in question. While there is little information about this company’s operation and client reviews, we also found another post in which the company stated its founding purpose and lauded its civil engineers and craftsmen who discovered their briquette quality.

The accompanying image on the post contains a similar image to the one Yaw posted of him standing in front of the property in question. This probably means that Mulbah could have taken the image from either of the platforms to make the public believe it belonged to Ali.

These different accounts push us to go further with the investigation. We contacted a colleague in Accra, Ghana, where Yaw claimed to be operating, to help us verify. We found that Yaw’s company (Ajuma) does not exist in Accra, Ghana, as there is no office space to locate the company.

Our colleague on December 2, 2024, phoned the number 053170531363218, which we took from one of Yaw’s Facebook posts pretending to want to do business with him. The guy behind the number informed our colleague that he does all his work from home.

Before this, TSM reached out to Yaw on November 26, 2024, to authenticate the image shared by Mulbah and whether or not it was part of work done by his company, the owner, and the location where the project was done, but he declined to respond because his company is not in Liberia and later blocked our fact-checker.

We further reached out to Mulbah, who posted the information to gather details about his post, but as of this date, Mublah has yet to respond but deleted the post instead.

At the same time, we have established contact with Aksoy Block Factory in Uganda to authenticate the building since they posted that the block was used to construct the building in question. We are yet to get a response; when we do, this article will be updated.

Conclusion: Following our research, we found the claim to be misleading. The building does not have a link to Liberia.
