Full Text: A website claimed that Liberia’s President, Joseph Boakai, is gifting LRD$150,000 grants to Liberians. This link is circulated in many professional WhatsApp chatrooms.

Boakai is Liberia’s 26th President. Before his presidency, he was the 29th Vice President of Liberia from January 16, 2006, to January 22, 2018, under President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Verification: When opening the link initially, this is what is being displayed: “SMS: Congratulations! You qualify for President JOSEPH BOAKAI LRD150,000 CASH GRANT FOR LIBERIANS, Kindly Press OK to Withdraw Cash Prize.”

When you click okay, it brings a list of questions to fill out and instructs a person to share with about 20 people in their network to qualify to receive the amount in question. The question portal also contained an image of President Boakai. The information on this site has received 135k reactions, 24k comments, and 13k shares as of the time of this check.

For further authentication of the information, we did a Scamdoc search to establish the trust level of the website that claims the president is providing the said amount to Liberians. The result shows that the site cannot be trusted, as seen below.

We found that the domain of the site was created last October and will expire less than six months from now.

We saw a publication on the executive Manson’s Facebook page debunking the circulated content.

Conclusion: It is a scam. President Boakai is not gifting L$150,000. Our research has found the information to be fake.
